Soren the Robot

Soren the Robot is a collaborative character between Josiah Soren and Gunnar Tarsa (Scribble Warlock). Soren the Robot’s main purpose is to “collect sounds from the Living Universe” by exploring the infinite cosmos of the CHROMAVERSE!

Soren the Robot has officially released 2 full-length instrumental Hip Hop albums, as well as an EP with the lyricist Dope Knife. While these independent releases do not necessarily contribute to the canon of the CHROMAVERSE, they do co-exist within that universe. Soren the Robot will be releasing 3 short EP’s in sequence, called the ARTIFACT series, and then following that up with their 3rd full-length album that features 20 beautifully crafted instrumental hip hop beats called “Night Tapestry”

In April of 2021, Soren the Robot released their debut Beat Tape Album on Etymology Records under the mentorship of Jazzinuf. This 13-track lofi jazz hip hop record features the peaceful sounds of piano, calming lofi jazz drums, and live bass. The album, called “Mind. Body. Soul.” is a reflection of Josiah’s own musical journey after the pandemic hit and deprived me of gigs and my musical community. Only the finest samples were used and carefully crafted to give each track a powerful calming and emotional atmosphere. (Mind. Body. Soul. RIYL: The Deli, Jazzinuf, Quickly Quickly). The follow up to that album, “Some Jazzy Joints”, was released almost 2 years later in April of 2023 with the label “Beat’s Tailors”. Inspired by a similar philosophy as the first, SJJ attempted to re-create that dusty, low fidelity sound characteristic of old jazz records and features samples from some of the greatest jazz musicians in the US -Gerry Mulligan, Chet Baker, McCoy Tyner, and many more. Night Tapestry is the 3rd Instrumental hip hop album and the first full-length release with 20 individual tracks at almost 42 minutes long. Night Tapestry will release with “Beat’s Tailors” in March of 2024 and is a tribute to the 7 years of work Josiah has spent bartending and working in concert venues. The album features samples from obscure Italian and French movie scores, as well as Avant garde jazz and deep crate finds. Night Tapestry was produced with a more modern instrumental hip hop focus with heavy emphasis on drum grooves and a more refined sampling technique than ever before.
